Reflection on My Youtube Tutorial Project

WOW! WHAT CAN I SAY? THIS HAS BEEN A JOURNEY!

This is how I feel now!!!!!!

During the recording of my tutorial video on YouTube I felt frustrated, and sometimes I felt motivated. The cartoons pictures at the top depict just how I felt.  The first step was to download the jing program to my computer, (this was the easiest part).  But, then I could not figure out how to use it (Arlene's Tutorial on Jing would have been beneficial at this time). After many phone calls, e-mails, viewing tutorials online and of course playing around with it, I began to enjoy the recording part of jing.
This was how I felt then?????
I must have done over thirty recordings and still could not decide on which one to use. Each one had a different mistake or I did not get a chance to say all of what I wanted to say as jing only offered me five minutes.  I can now imagine what directors of movies, music videos and commercials go through, ( when they have to do so many TAKES).
I have learned so much, from my tutorial and also from my other classmates tutorials. I feel very comfortable to use slideshare, skype, wordle, animoto, jing, and google maps just to name a few.  I have also learned how these web 2.0 tools can be utilized in my classroom to enhance my lessons. I know that my first graders would especially enjoy jing as while I worked on my tutorial, my daughter (who is in first grade) also did her recordings and she loved it.
What I found amazing throughout this journey is the fact that any video I needed to find was probably on YouTube. There are so many videos there. You can pick, choose, and refuse. Before doing this, I had misconceptions of YouTube. I previously saw it as a website that I would not be apart of. But, now I have an account and I can upload my own videos, as there is the option of making them private, so only my family and friends would be able to see them.
After all of this, and from all that I have learnt, I am able to use web 2.0 tools such as these.

  1. Hi, I think this reflection is a true reflection. I love how you went through the processes that took you to a greater love for your final tutorial on YouTube. I also love the wordle cloud that was created using the names of all the web based applications that we had to create tutorials for.

Sharing the experience with your daughter must have been nice and the insight it gave in to what your first graders may think about using the various applications.

    Good job!! Two thumbs up!!.

  2. You animation shows exactly how I felt too. I can see that you have grown from when you just started. That is what keeps the hope alive because we can see our journey through our challenges and forth comings. We are all rising to the top and nothing can stop us now. I am sure sir will back me on that one. You think you have done over thirty, I think I have more for real. Each time you record, another idea comes to mind, even though time was against us using jing. I laugh, I cry, but in the end we were AWESOME. Great post

  4. Let me say I am thrilled to see that wordle capture in the post. It is interesting how we have blossomed even with our own blogs. i will definitely agree with you that web 2.0 tools can be used to enhance a lesson and should be utilized as such.

  6. Wonderful reflection! I believe we all felt discouraged, frustrated and helpless at times. I enjoyed your tutorial on You Tube. Your animations are so simple but meaningful. They really reflect your emotions and the growth that you have made so far in this course( Very creative my friend!) Continue to do your best. Remember this " If at first you dont succeed, try, try, try again!

  7. You are right, i think just about all of us were frustrated creating our tutorials, but when we created the final product, there was a feeling of accomplishment and as Dr. W said, we should all give ourselves a tap on the back. I enjoyed reading your reflection. I think its more than safe to say that Dr. W opened a door for us and now we are on our way to becoming Tech Savvy teachers!
Keep up the good work girl.....

  8. Your classmates said it best...and I definitely back them all up! This is the fourth time that I have taught this course, and each time, there is an amazing mood shift after week 4. The positive feelings you now have will carry you through this entire course...and I suspect, into your teaching as well!
