Horizon Report
The Horizon Report has really given me an insight as to where Tecnology in going. One of the latest trend in technology as referred in the report is mobile computing. This a very powerful computing device that has grown over the past three years and is growing. From reading this I was taken back to the start of the course where Wendy and "My PLE" and all the things she was doing on her cell phone. Also Mrs. Davis in her class where she got the students to link all their Web 2.0 tools to their cell phones so information can be access anywhere.
Both The Horizon report and Classroom 2.0 are media where technology users and experts can dialog with each other about technology devices, their impact in education and teaching and learning. The future is bright for my first graders as I can see the direction that technology is heading. This is just a snopsis of what the future holds for technology. The report can help with technology planning in that school district and school boards can get an insight of technology trends so they can plan accordingly.

It has been a real insight for me too. We need to really prepare our selves for the future because we are in a technological era and we have to 'go with the flow' or else we will be left behind. It is good to be able to share ideas where classroom 2.0 is concerned. You are so right about the fact that Wendy was already above her game with the usage of her cell phone and that is where the world is going, and it will get greater and greater as the years go by.
ReplyDeleteI like that you mentioned the school boards as sometimes that are the ones that either help or hinder the situation with technology in the classrooms.
ReplyDeleteThis report is really an eye opener, I can see that from what you have read you can already picture your students using these furturistic technologies. It is going to be awesome!!!
Great post!!
I agree with the comment about the school board having a significant impact on the use of technologies in our schools. What I find very sad is that some of the persons empowered to make these decisions are "technology dummies", completely clueless about what is out there and the positive impact some of these things can have on student learning and yet, they make decisions.
ReplyDeleteI too had a recollection of Wendy the student, while I was reading the reports. It is very exciting to see what is in the future of technology. Technology is indeed growing, likewise school districts need to move with the trend.
ReplyDeleteTechnology is really moving forward! I watched the video I thought about the future for the students that we teach and also our own children. As educators let us continue to incoporate technology in our teaching learning environment. It makes no sense we delay.Looking on the Horizon Reports should even motivate us more to move forward! Great Post my friend!
ReplyDeleteIt is uncanny how we all think alike sometimes. I took myself back to Wendy too as I viewed the Horizon Report and I just kept saying wow! like a complete moron. But that was my way of internalizing what the future holds for us. My dear we will have to do more technological presentations to our school boards so the 'clueless' ones as my colleague mentioned will have an idea of just what they are stalling when they say no to a web 2.o tool for classroom use. Great post my dear, thanks for sharing your thoughts.
ReplyDeleteWendy may have wow'ed us...but she was so 2009! Just think what she could do with the trends coming!
ReplyDeleteJust this past week, my wife and I were shopping when I spotted a QR Code on a advertising poster. These are starting to appear to take advantage of smartphones. Check out what I am talking about at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/QR_Code.
So I simply pointed my phone at the QR code and up opened a website on my phone with more details about the product. Imagine our new textbooks or field trips with similar capabilities. Wendy's next video will be even more impressive!
Yes indeed this is just a synopsis. This report can definitely help with technology planning in that school district and school boards can get an insight of technology trends so they can plan accordingly.
